Veteran's Day Assembly

DAYTON–Senior and Junior High School students honored veterans during a Thursday afternoon assembly held in the gymnasium.

Many high school students were still recovering from the homecoming activities and dance of last week, and welcomed the shortened schedule due to Veteran's Day on Friday. To honor those who are or have served, been injured, or died during their tours, the Middle School (MS) Associated Student Body (ASB) planned an assembly for the whole Dayton School District.

During the afternoon of Thursday, November 9, the MS ASB President Georgia Reser opened the ceremony, followed by the Vice-President who led the audience in the "Pledge of Allegiance". The elementary school students sane "The Star-Spangled Banner" then the high school student duo Jaelynn Chapman and Carson Potter amazingly performed "America the Beautiful." To wrap up the Veteran's Day assembly, the MS ASB explained what Veteran's Day is and the MS band performed the "Victors March."

The Winter Sports Programs for MS and HS have officially started! The MS girls' basketball team claimed a victory during Veteran's Day weekend against Pomeroy. High School girls' and boys' basketball practices begin this week as well as the cheerleaders.

Dayton Boosters Club fundraisers are quickly approaching. Upper Deck dinners will be their next fundraiser. Also, the Scoreboard Sponsor Program. Game business sponsors will donate $1 per point scored for each boys' and girls' varsity games.

Dayton FFA has a few upcoming events this coming week. Their chapter is hosting the "Locals Eat Local" dinner by donation in the Multipurpose Room on November 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The "meal is made and produced with 85% locally sourced products within Columbia County." The following weekend, the Dayton FFA Trapshooting team will be competing in Warden on Saturday, November 18.
