What's New at School?

DAYTON–Students are preparing themselves to go into Thanksgiving break starting on Wednesday, November 22.

While the Dayton High School (DHS) students are planning Thanksgiving, I asked them and some staff, “What does Thanksgiving mean to you?” I received a variety of feedback from these individuals. One student said, “Thanksgiving means giving thanks to my family.” This was in most of the feedback I had received.

However, I received some more with different answers. Ms. Morgan said, “Thanksgiving means the start of the holiday season.” Another group of individuals provided feedback about Thanksgiving being a reminder. “It is a reminder of all I have and all the love I have in my life,” Kaelie Jonas had replied.

Most of the feedback I received included something about family. Mrs. Warren said, “A chance to be thankful and grateful for all I have, including my family.”

“I get to see my great grandma and enjoy her food,” said Lila Hutchens.

“Thanksgiving is a chance to see family I don’t usually see,” Ana Czapka said,

“Thanksgiving is a time of gathering,” Karina replied.

“Food and family,” Peyton Dobbs said excitedly. Within DHS, Thanksgiving means various things to staff and students.

Over the weekend, Turkey Bingo was hosted in the Multi-purpose Room on Saturday, November 18, at 2:30 p.m. Many 4-H members and high school students volunteered at this annual community event. Dayton FFA also participated in the Trapshooting event in Warden. The Outdoors Club also went to Bluewood to brush cut on Saturday morning. FFA has started its Wreath Sale fundraiser and plans to sell until December 6 while supplies last.

Some upcoming events are Dayton FFA participating in the Christmas Kick-off Parade on Friday, November 24. The work days to build and construct the float are November 20-21 after school. There will be a Middle School Boys’ Basketball game at Rogers at 4 p.m. on Monday, November 20. There will be no school on November 22-24 for Thanksgiving break. Christmas “Giving” Tree forms are available in the office until November 27.
