Some of Santa's reindeer were in Dayton last week for the Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Kick Off celebration, and they undoubtedly brought joy to this young lady who got the opportunity to meet this magical creature up close and personal. "It makes me so emotional to see all the kids and their faces that just light up from seeing Santa or reindeer, the parade or on the hayride," commented Belinda Larson, Chamber Executive Director. Larson applauded turnout for the 5K Ugly Sweater Dash, noted that there were 26 parade entries and that the crowd seemed to be bigger this year.
The Candy Canes, a local quintet led by Charlotte Baker of Clef Hangers Music Studio, led the assembled throng in a few Christmas carols prior to the ceremonial lighting of the Community Christmas Tree.
This bunch of Ugly Sweater 5K participants had a message they wanted to get across, loud and clear: Let It Snow. Members of the Smith and Krueger families had gathered for the Thanksgiving holiday and then took part in the Christmas Kick Off's Ugly Sweater 5K, imaginatively putting together a message that most around these parts wouldn't disagree with. The reason for the season is the birth of Christ, portrayed in this Living Nativity by the Dayton Ministerial Association.

Ugly Sweaters galore for the 2023 edition of the Christmas Kick Off's Ugly Sweater 5K Run/Walk, a popular event that lets many work off some of the calories consumed a day earlier, and for most, a good time to give their ugliest sweaters some exposure-if only once a year.
