GRANGER–Dayton's two-man wrestling team competed at the Tony Saldivar Ironman here last weekend, Bulldog Byron Collier winning one out of three matches and Andrew Wertz going winless in the team's second match of the season.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Royal City Christmas Tournament on December 29.
Collier, competing in the 175 lb. class, drew a first-round bye then was pinned by Emanuel Fernandez of Zillah at 3:46. Collier was leading 7-4 at the time Fernandez made the fall.
Dropped to the consolation round, Collier again drew a bye. He then wrestled Eric Parkinson of Eisenhower (Yakima), who took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Collier came back with seven points in the second period and scored on a takedown and near fall in the third period, pinning him at 1:13.
In the final match, Mason Leinan of Forks pinned Collier at 3:52. Collier was leading in this evenly matched duel. He scored a takedown and near fall in the first period, and a reversal in the second. Leinan scored reversals in both periods, then pinned Collier to end the match.
Wertz (138 lb.) lost by fall to Michael Lembcke of Warden at 3:03. In the second round, he drew a bye, then faced Armando Orduno of Grandview, losing by fall at 3:20.
