Bonnie Johnson of Walla Walla won a giant bag of goodies in Santa's bag which she won in the Dayton Chronicle's annual Shopping Spree.
The McGregor Company facility has a new manager: Doug Wendt will return to Dayton to take over the managerial position. Wendt worked for McGregor's in Dayton until 1990 when he transferred to that company's Endicott facility.
In the last few years, angels have become a fad. If the presence of angels brings blessings, Inez Richter, who has collected angels, numbering one hundred or more, for many years is truly blessed.
Jack Williams of the Dayton Chronicle drew the winning ticket, held by Walter Sinkbiel, for the Touchet Valley Arts Council's original painting by Debbie Baxter. She donated the painting to the First Congregational Church which was the subject of the painting.
The Shopping Spree winners for 1998 are Shirlee Marvin, $125; Chrisi Strong $75; and Duane Dunlap $50. Malinda Litchfield of the Dayton Chronicle handed out the Shopping Spree Script.

Proposed changes in regulations controlling the sale and use of 2, 4-D in the eastern tier of Washington counties will be considered at a State Department of Agriculture public hearing in Colfax.
Owen Agenbroad passed the chalice of 12 years of service as Scoutmaster of Dayton Boy Scout Troop 332 into history. "This is the biggest family of boys a man ever has had," Agenbroad said. "I'm going to miss them."
The Dayton Explorer Post 4332, Search and Rescue unit, under the guidance of Post Advisor Ray Mollenhauer and assistant post advisor Roy Maxwell, is readying for its certification run. Once certified, the group will become a part of an elite corps. Presently there are only 16 units certified in the Washington and Oregon area, who are on 24 hour call, to respond to an emergency anywhere in Washington, Oregon or Idaho.
"The lives of more than 14,000 American infants could be saved each year by improving ways of caring for high-risk pregnant mothers and their newborns, asserted Harold Thonney, March of Dimes campaign director for Columbia County. Thonney explained that prevention of birth defects is the long-range goal of the voluntary health organization. Birth defects afflict some 250,000 infants each year.

To meet Washington's acute shortage of custom sheep shearers, four district shearing schools will be held by the Agricultural Extension Service of Washington State College. E. A. Warner of Chicago, a commercial sheep-shearing specialist, will provide instruction at all the schools. Attendance will include adults, 4-H and FFA members and will open with a public sheep-shearing demonstration by Warner, followed by individual instruction for up to 12 persons.
A little louse by the name of Haematopinus eurysternus, alias the short nosed ox louse, is being evicted from his home on the range. It causes weight losses to range cattle running into hundreds of millions of pounds every year. Practical large-scale tests in the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains areas during the 1947-48 winter season demonstrated the effectiveness of Pyrenone, a new insecticide material, against the short nosed ox louse, as well as the long nosed louse and several varieties of red biting lice.
Another Pulls His Orchard. In the face of all this optimism, Lester Literal is pulling his orchard. It's claimed Literal's orchard is made up of an unpopular variety of 240 trees, of whom Lester doesn't think they pay their way.
Winsel Abel, probably 45 years old, was raised in the mountains and foothills and has an intimate knowledge of keen-edged tools, as well as most men and women on the North Touchet. While splitting wood for the kitchen stove, he sliced off the "fat" part of his hand at the thumb requiring 14 stiches to fix the hand.
