DAYTON–The Lady Bulldogs finally counted their first win during this re-building year for Dayton Bulldog Athletics, a 47-12 tilt over the Prescott Tigers here January 16. The Lady Dawgs lost to DeSales 55-29 Monday at home, and then won on the road at River View, 38-27.
Friday the team travels to Oakesdale and hosts Colton Saturday, the first of three homestands that will wrap the 2023-24 season. Gar-Pal visits next Tuesday and Senior Night will be February 2 against Tekoa-Rosalia.
"Our consistent hard work and effort prevailed," Head Coach Jorie Aukerman said of the team's first win. "We have had lots of talks on continuing to push through and not give up, and these girls are have proven that they can compete.
"It was a much needed win for our girls, and will continue to pump us up for the rest of our season," Aukerman said. "We will continue to make great things happen as we continue to play like we have been."
The Lady Bulldogs pressed Prescott from the opening tip, building a strong 13-4 lead.
In the second quarter, Dayton continued to get good looks and its defense held the Lady Tigers scoreless for a 21-4 score at the break.
They wrapped the game by continuing to play aggressive defense and put up shots.
"I am so proud of these girls and the small wins they have had this season so far; it is even more motivating and exciting to get our first W after our continuous hard work," she said.
Against DeSales, the Lady Bulldogs were short handed due to injuries. The Lady Irish started the game with pressure and quashed Dayton's shot attempts, finishing the first half ahead 38-14.
The Lady Dawgs started the second half fighting and defending, holding the Irish to seven in the third. The team pushed through the fourth quarter and continued working to get looks at the basket.
