Parents, supporters and players arrived in force to the regular Dayton School District Board meeting to express support for what one student called "the outcast sport." There was concern that the board planned to cut the wrestling program. The group championed wrestling as a positive sport alternative for many high school students for whom other sports don't work.
Army Pvt. 2 Michael A. Daugherty, son of William and Cheri Daugherty, and stationed in Bosnia, is helping rebuild a country torn apart by a mash of religious differences and territorial conflicts. For the victims of war, electricity is a luxury they haven't had in years and a single light bulb means they can continue to make repairs to their home even after the sun has gone down.

Mothers marching for "The March of Dimes" collected $575.00 in the residential district of Dayton. Mrs. Gary Gasaway, Mothers' March chairman, said the success was due to everyone's generosity and to and to all the Mothers and friends of the National foundation.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark James were selected as 1974 Cattleman of the Year. The selection committee, Chairman Ben Dickinson, Delbert Howard, Wayne Hinchliffe and Hallie Fletcher of the Livestock Association; Duane Scott, SCS and Art Sunderland, County Agent, made the selection on the accomplishments in developing a top herd of Angus cattle and to their community leadership with youth.
Amy Colleen Gehrke, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Wilbur Gehrke, is the winner of the "First Baby" contest in Columbia County, with Gifts and prizes to be received by the family are from many of the local stores.
The first cut of Columbia Cut Stock Inc, rolled into operation in the old Lewis building.

The crashed plane and bodies of two Pomeroy flying farmers, Lew Whitmore, 42, who was piloting the plane, and his passenger Wynne Stallcop, were found by Bert Zimmerly of Lewiston, north of Delany. Kenneth Bickelhaupt's Touchet Valley Flying Service had five planes on the job most of the day, local pilots Jerry Montgomery, Myron Ballard, Wallace Warren, Walker and Bickelhaupt provided their service.
The local Eagles aerie is well into the organization which will culminate by the chartering of a new Cub Scout pack and a new Boy Scout troop in Dayton. These additional Scout units will help to make it possible for all Dayton boys who want to join the Cubs or Scouts to do so immediately.

Elegant new Pullman Palace Sleepers between Portland and Chicago have just been placed in service on the O. R. & N., Oregon Short Line, Union Pacific and Chicago and Northwestern Railways daily every day of the year, leaving Portland on the fast train in the evening arriving in Chicago the morning of the fourth day.
A basket supper was given at the McKay Schoolhouse last week, with about 30 present from Starbuck and a large number from the surrounding country. The entertainment was gotten up for the purpose of raising funds to buy an organ for the school district. The baskets were put up at auction and brought various prices, the highest price paid being $4.80. The proceeds amounted to $61 for the purchase of an organ.
