Columbia County Park and Rec Pool District works on policies

DAYTON–The Columbia County Park and Rec Pool District held its first regular board meeting on January 25. Choosing an official name was just one of the many housekeeping items they worked on at this meeting.

The board invited Prosecuting Attorney Dale Slack to the meeting to offer legal advice while they worked on setting up policies and procedures. This is the first of many meetings where they will be discussing and writing a mission statement, policies and procedures, and bylaws.

The board approved the appointment of Katie Leid to the position of Treasurer. Leid was absent from the last meeting, but was sworn in by Auditor Will Hutchens in his office on Wednesday, January 24. The board has received a bill from the auditor’s office for the ballot measure in the last election. The bill was in the amount of $8,751.67. Since the board currently has no funds or a bank account yet, Commissioner Leid will go talk to the Auditor about how to pay them. In addition, the board voted to allow Chair Diane McKinley to obtain a post office box for the District.

The board also discussed the need to find members to take over the Friends of the Pool Committee as both McKinley and Lisa Naylor were the heads of that group, but now that they are commissioners, it will be necessary to find replacement volunteers to avoid any conflict of interest.
