DAYTON–The City of Dayton Public Works Department was approved for a $2 million grant and addressed surplus property during the meeting February 13.
Public Works Director Ryan Paulson notified the council that Public Works have been approved for a $2 million grant to cover the cost of approximately 90% of street resurfacing in town. According to the information presented to the Council, the grant covers the cost of a new type of road seal called OTTA Seal. It is considered more cost effective, easier to apply, and should last up to twice as long as chip seal when properly maintained. A map of the streets to be repaired will be published to the public soon.
"It's going to be a really busy summer all over town," said Paulson. "It's going to be hectic, so I apologize upfront to everyone, but the outcome is going to be fantastic."
The meeting also included the Council voting to auction, sell, or dispose of seven items of surplus in the Public Works Department, including a Ford Ranger pick-up, a Dodge 1500, Dodge 2500, paint sprayer, Dell computer tower, antifreeze recycler, and a computer monitor and keyboard.
The Council also voted and approved a letter of support to the Dayton School District, in order that it can qualify for a grant to fix the football fields and track. They voted and approved a resolution that allowed City Clerk Deb Hays as the designated agent to receive tort claims. They also approved a resolution to designate an animal control authority.
The Council held an executive order to discuss potential litigation. No action was taken.
