Top scores, trophies, and good times at CPTA Walla Walla Championship

POMEROY–Seventeen Pomeroy Gun Club members traveled to Walla Walla Gun Club for all or part of the 2024 Camas Prairie Championships March 21-24. They captured several trophies over the weekend. There were as many as 291 Shooters in the nine events.

On Friday's 16-yard competition Tracy Hanger posted the top Pomeroy score with a 98X100 which was one target behind All American Laura Winkle of Kennewick in the Lady division. Holly Ledgerwood was close behind with a 96. Jim Adams 97 was good enough to capture Veteran honors on Friday. Larry Bunch shot a 96, Terry John posted a 93 and Lee Blachly had a 90 just four weeks after knee replacement surgery.

In Friday's Handicap conditions were brutal with poor light and poor scores by many good shooters. Beau Blachly and Jim Adams had the top Pomeroy scores of 86.

In Friday's Doubles, Larry Bunch posted a 90 which tied him for B class Champion with Brian Windsor of Colton. Windsor won the trophy the next day in a Carryover shoot off in the Championship Doubles.

During Saturday's Championship Doubles, Buck Geiger had the top score for Pomeroy with an 89 which got him the Sub Veteran Runner Up trophy.

Saturday saw the first half of the 200-target championship in the 16-yard event and Larry Bunch topped the Pomeroy shooters with a 95. Tracy Hanger and Travis Ledgerwood had 94s. Jim Adams, Wayne Tetrick and Buck Geiger posted scores of 93 and Terry John posted a 91. In their first ever 100 registered Targets Junior Shooter Ollie Severs shot a 91, Rowdy Cole had an 88 and Luke Collier posted a 78.

Ollie Severs made the Pomeroy contingent proud in Saturdays Handicap by posting a 96 in his first career 100 registered Handicap event. Only a single score of 98 bested Ollie's score in the 291-shooter field. Ollie got the Runner up Trophy for the event. Buck Geiger had a 92, Travis Ledgerwood put up a 90 and Sub Junior Rowdy Cole had an 88 to top the Pomeroy contingent. Scores through the field were poor for the entire event. Saturday night, Ollie Severs again made the local contingent proud by winning a five man shoot off for the final spot on the Camas Prairie Junior All Star Team. He was the only Pomeroy Gun Club member to make the team this year.

On Sunday the second half of the Championship Singles was the first event of the day and nicer weather resulted in some good scores. Jim Adams led the local contingent with a 98 for a two-day total of 191 which tied him with Lee Hogue of Kennewick for Veteran Champion. Hogue won a coin flip for the Champion Trophy and Adams settled for the Runner Up Hardware. Holly Ledgerwood shot 97 and her total for the two days of 183 won her the Lady II Runner up trophy. Larry Bunch shot 96 and had a two-day total of 191. Buck Geiger shot 96 and Wayne Tetrick had a 95 for two-day totals of 189. Terry John shot a good 96 to bring his two-day total to 187, and Tracy Hanger ended with 186 with her score of 92. Travis Ledgerwood posted a 91 for a two-day total of 185 and Ollies Severs completed his first 200 bird event with a 93 and total of 184. Bunch shot off with Rod Hubner of Garfield for Senior Veteran Runner up and he was able to put up a 25 in a downpour of rain and gusty winds to top Hubner's effort of 22.

In Sunday's Handicap Wayne Tetrick posted the top score for Pomeroy Gun Club with a 91, Ollie Severs had an 89 and Travis Ledgerwood posted an 87. Rowdy Cole put up an 84 to complete his first registered shoot weekend.

Tracy Hanger shot off for the High All Around Lady 1 trophy that is based on the 400 Championship events on the weekend but she failed to win her shoot off. Tracy did win the Lady 1 High Overall trophy based on the total 800 targets for the entire three days. Larry Bunch was the Senior Veteran Runner up in the High Overall and took home that trophy. Tracy shot 702X800 and Larry shot 697X800.

The club will complete the Camas Prairie events for 2024 with their annual Barbeque and Potluck, the annual meeting and Fun Day at the Pataha range on Sunday April 7 beginning at 9 a.m. Bring your favorite side dish and have some fun. The Club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs.
