CLARKSTON–Bulldog golfers Cayle Davis and Dillon Lewis will advance to District Golf match in Warden's Sage Hills Golf Course on Monday, May 13.
Davis and Lewis both carded a 124 at the SE 1B Sub District at Red Wolf Golf Club, Clarkston, an 18 hole, par 72 match.
"Cayle started off on the first hole with a double bogey which, if he kept that up, would be enough to advance," said Head Coach Mike McGhan. "Unfortunately, his driver found more trees than he would like but he played through this and hung in there for most of the round.
"Though Cayle's chipping was excellent," McGhan continued, "he began being tentative with his putts as the greens were much faster than what we are accustomed to. The winds also had an effect."
"Dillon has been sick and missed quite a few matches and practices," McGhan said. "We were not even sure he would have the strength to play 18; he had my blessing to quit after nine if he was feeling tired.
"Watching Dillon on the practice range, I noticed something in his swing that I wanted him to correct. I don't know if he actually changed anything, but I know he was able to keep the ball on the fairway and consistently stay out of trouble," McGhan said.
After scores were posted, McGhan noticed other golfers were also struggling with the windy conditions.
Carson Potter finished with 131, Noa Tasker at 144 and hunter Griffen at 145. Waitsburg's William Daves finished with a 161.
"Noa had a blow-up hole early in the round and was never able to get anything going," McGhan said. "Carson Potter struggled off the tee but as he has all season, battled and came up with a passable score. Hunter continued to work on his game and made some outstanding shots." Noa, Dillon and Hunter are all first-time golfers.
