Bulldog tracksters headed to Regionals

RITZVILLE–Four Bulldog track and field competitors will be vying for berths at the state meet at the District 7/9 Regional Track and Field Championships here Wednesday, May 15 and Friday, May 17. From this meet, the top five boys and top six girls advance to the state championships May 23, 24, and 25 in Yakima.

Hikaru Iwamoto will compete in two events, the 100m. and 200m. dash preliminaries on Wednesday. If Iwamoto does well, he'll compete in the finals on Friday. He's ranked second to Pomeroy's Tyler Slaybaugh in the 100m. and sixth in the 200m.

Solomon Brenner will run in the 300m. Int. Hurdle prelims on Wednesday. He's ranked seventh with a 50.24 PR. Brenner is in the shot put finals and is one of the legs of the 4X100m. Relay.

Rennaker does the triple jump prelims on Wednesday. He is ranked seventh with a 36-11 mark. On Friday, he'll compete in the high jump finals where his best has been 5-0.

Luke Winkler is ranked eighth in the 100m.

The 4X100 Relay team of Luke Winkler, Brenner, Tristan Rennaker and Iwamoto are ranked eighth with a best time of 48.19 and will compete on Friday.

Waitsburg Cardinal Track and Field has eight athletes going: Makenna Barron, Alyssa Hollingsworth, Blake Brench, Teegan Kenney, Brenton Segraves, Reuben Yutzy, Marion Duncan and Fredy Chavez.

Barron competes in Wednesday's high jump finals.

Hollingsworth sprints in the 100m. prelims on Wednesday and finals on Friday, if she qualifies. Also on Friday, she'll run the 800m.

French jumps in the triple jump finals on Wednesday, then hits the high jump finals on Friday in addition to running a leg of Waitsburg's 4X100m. Relay which with a 47.15 time is third close behind second-place Pomeroy (47.13) and first-place Valley Christian (47.09). Waitsburg relay includes Kenney, Brenton Segraves and Reuben Yutzy.

Kenney will tackle the prelims for the 100 and 200m. dashes on Wednesday. Friday will be the long jump finals (his best 19-2 puts him in fifth place) and the four-by-one relay.

Brenton Segraves also sprints the 100m. on Wednesday, where he's ranked 12th with a best of 11.98. He shifts to throwing the shot and javelin on Friday. Segraves's best shot effort was 35-10 and javelin was 111-6.

Reuben Yutzy will be a busy thrower. Wednesday he takes his best discus mark of 132-1, good enough for third in the field, to the finals. Friday Yutzy will do the shot put and high jump. His best shot mark puts him in third with a 42-10. His high jump best ties him for fourth with SJEL's Brody Fleming at 5-8.
