Davis golfs at District

WARDEN–A challenging course put Dayton Bulldog golfers to the test at the District match on Sage Hills Golf Course here Monday, May 13.

Dayton Bulldog senior golfer Cayle Davis finished out of the money in 11th place with a 115.

"He had difficulty finding the fairway and reading the greens," commented Head Coach Mike McGhan.

"Sage Hills was a rough course," McGhan continued, "especially for inexperienced golfers. It has thick, knee-high grass just off the fairways and the kids had to deal with a lot of lost balls. In addition, the greens were inconsistent, so putting was a challenge."

Davis's challenges showed in his score of 62 on the front nine. "On the back nine," McGhan said, "he kept more of his drives playable and sank a few putts, finishing with a 53."

Dayton's other golfer, Dillon Lewis withdrew from the match after six tough holes, with McGhan's approval.

"He was a nervous wreck and really felt out of his element," McGhan said. "He continued with Cayle and eventually played another hole and got a bogey. Much better when relaxed! He is already looking forward to next year."

"I'm still happy with the results," commented McGhan. "We haven't had anyone earn a trip to district since 2017."

The six top boys and five top girls advanced to state.
