The Dayton Bulldog 4X100 m. Relay Team finished the event in seventh place with a time of 47.17 and were next to Waitsburg's Relay Team which finished fifth in the finals with a 46.79 time. YAKIMA–The Dayton Bulldog Relay Team finished a bit back in the pack but well enough to make the podium for a seventh-place medal at the State 1B Championships here last week.
The Dayton squad of Hikaru Iwamoto, Tristan Rennaker, Solomon Brenner and Luke Winkler burned through the 4X100 m. Relay preliminaries with a respectable 46.09 time for fifth in the prelims. The foursome then finished their meet appearance with a seventh-place finish in the finals with a time of 47.17.
"They worked well together, making sure they were hydrated, warmed up and doing what they needed to do so they were ready," said Dayton Head Coach Dan Nechodom, who cooperatively coached the Waitsburg Track and Field Team as well. "They were also a great group to be around outside the meet, representing their schools and communities well."
The team's lead-off runner, Iwamoto, also competed in the 100 m. dash, ripping in the preliminaries with a personal record of 11.56. The exchange student was a smidge slower in the finals, standing on the medal podium in seventh place with an 11.63 mark.
Waitsburg's 4X100 Relay team of Teegan Kenney, Blake French, Brenton Segraves and Reuben Yutzy qualified for the finals with an eighth-place finish with a 46.74 time. In the finals, they upped their game with a fifth-place finish and a time of 46.79.
Yutzy had the best finish of the athletes who represented the two Touchet Valley schools. He put the shot 46-4½, good enough for third place on the medal stand.
Segraves also competed in the shot put along with teammate Yutzy. Segraves came in 15th with a 36-5 effort.
