Coach with local ties has success

Coaching the 3A Mead High School Panthers to a state championship is an individual with local ties: James Lehr, formerly of Waitsburg and now head coach of the Panther track and field team. Lehr, seated third from left, is the son of Pat and Jody Lehr of Waitsburg and brother to local businesswoman Melissa McCowen. A 2010 graduate of Waitsburg High School, Lehr is now in his second year as head coach of the boys' team at Mead where six of his athletes captured firsts. While a high school junior, he was 2B state champion in both the shot put (50-11½) and discus (162-8).
