Community awards over $115k in scholarships

DAYTON–Local philanthropically minded individuals and organizations presented scholarship awards exceeding $115,000 to graduating Dayton High School Class of 2024 members and D.H.S. alumni at Scholarship Night at the Fairgrounds Pavilion Thursday, June 6. When university or college scholarships were added, students received a grand total of $870,391 to further their education.

Receiving scholarships were:

Kameryn Tupling: John Israel, Archer Ranch, Guy and Nyda Prater, Elk Drug, Rural Healthcare Interest, Owen and Jan Agenbroad Assistanceship, Ward and Vera Hoskins, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Eagles, Dayton Lions Club Academic, Dayton Kiwanis, Launch NW, Dayton Hospital Auxiliary, Dayton Volunteer Firefighters Assoc., Dayton Booster Club for $17,030. Gonzaga: $217,520 and WA Opportunity: $20,000.

Grace Trump: John Israel, P.E.O. Citizenship Award, Guy and Nyda Prater, Ward and Vera Hoskins, D.H.S. Alumni, Dayton Kiwanis, Dayton Booster Club, Norgaard Estate, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Kay Preston-Cochran Memorial for $10,675.

Madison Richardson: John Israel, Guy and Nyda Prater, Don and Nancy Fix, Dayton Kiwanis, Dayton Hospital Auxiliary, Norgaard Estate, Owen and Jan Agenbroad Assistanceship, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Homestead, Launch NW for $19,165. Richardson was awarded $148,000 to attend Whitworth University.

Wyntr McCauley: John Israel, Guy and Nyda Prater, D.H.S. Alumni, AAUW, Dayton Kiwanis, Dayton Volunteer Firefighters Assoc., Ben and Sue Dickinson, Norgaard Estate, Owen and Jan Agenbroad Assistanceship, Neace Family, Dayton Chronicle, Ward and Vera Hoskins, Emory Clapp 4-H, Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Lions Club Academic, Dayton Hospital Auxiliary, Dayton Booster Club, Anderson•Perry & Associates, Columbia County Farm Bureau, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Homestead for $21,680. Montana State University scholarship: $78,000.

Elsie Mann: Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Kiwanis, Norgaard Estate, Frances R. Spoonemore, Dayton Columbia County Fund for $5,250. Embry Riddle four-year: $58,000.

Logan Berg: John Hinchliff-Pheasants Forever, Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Whetstone Ag, Dayton Lions Club Vocational, Dayton Kiwanis, Marv Evers, Norgaard Estate, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Dayton Eagles, Kay Preston-Cochran Memorial, with Lewis-Clark State College adding $11,000, plus $2,000 Merit Scholarship, for a grand total of $23,350.

Justina Abrahamson: Golliher, Guy and Nyda Prater, Dayton Kiwanis, Norgaard Estate, Dayton Columbia County Fund for a total of $4,100.

Nolan Korslund: Dayton Booster Club for $625.

Opal Hair-Morin: Launch NW for unspecified amount.

Dea Wanlarbkam: Vernon Marll, Brandon Barton Memorial, Ben and Sue Dickinson, Norgaard Estate, Arnold Fredrickson and WWCC Foundation-Audio Engineering for $6,600.

Vanessa Acevedo: Roger Harting Memorial for $350.

Parker Brown: Guy and Nyda Prater, Golliher, D.H.S. Alumni, John Hinchliff-Pheasants Forever, Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Kiwanis, Dayton Columbia County Fund for $6,500.

Adrian Ramirez: Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Lions Club Vocational, Norgaard Estate for $2,850.

Joshua Reser: John Israel, P.E.O. Citizenship Award, Guy and Nyda Prater, Vernon Marll, Gailord and Jean Nelson-Covello Wind, Dayton Kiwanis, Norgaard Estate, Dayton Columbia County Fund, Launch NW, Arnold Fredrickson for $8,400.

Alumna Sagelyn Kilts received $1,000 from the John Israel Scholarship, and alumnus Hudson Reser received $1,000 from the John Israel Scholarship.
