The residence at 309 W. Dayton Avenue sustained extensive smoke, water and heat damage from a fire in the early minutes of July 5. The fire, of which the cause is under investigation, was reported at 12:31 a.m. and first responders noted heavy fire in the back of the residence. Firefighters were prevented from gaining access in the residence's back yard due to a live and arcing power line until the power was cut some 20 minutes into the battle, reported Fire District 3 Chief Jeromy Phinney. Firefighters gained access through the front door and roof. No injuries to residents, their pets nor firefighters was reported.
