Primary ballots scheduled to mail

GARFIELD and COLUMBIA COUNTIES–Ballots are scheduled to be mailed on July 19 for the August 6, 2024, Primary Election.

County election officials advise voters, when the ballot is received and the voter is ready to vote, that the instructions be carefully followed. If you are unsure of the signature on your registration record, call the Elections Office in your county. If you are out of town during the election period, Garfield County residents should call 509-843-1411 and Columbia County residents 509-382-4541 during business hours for voting options.

When hand delivering your ballot, there are two locations in Pomeroy; one inside the Courthouse and the other is drive-up accessible located outside the Court House at 789 Main Street. In Columbia County, the Starbuck location is at City Hall, and the Dayton location is on the Commercial Street parking lot side of the County Courthouse, open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., during election period and 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m., election night.

In both counties, to register to vote online, go to VoteWA.gov. A Washington driver's license or ID is required to register online.

In Pomeroy, if not registering online, visit the Garfield County Elections Office at the Courthouse; or mail your request to Garfield County Elections Office, 789 Main St., Pomeroy, WA 99347; or email at https://www.garfieldcountywa.gov/auditor/page/elections or call Chief Deputy Auditor/Elections Director Shanda Wolf at 509-843-1411. To register in person, go to the Auditor's Office in both counties during business hours up to 8 p.m. on Election Day. If registering by mail or online, application must be received no later than eight days prior to Election Day.

In Columbia County, visit Columbia County Auditor's Office in the Courthouse, or mail your request to Columbia County Auditor, 341 E. Main St, Suite 3, Dayton, WA 99328; or email at [email protected] subject "Elections". To register in person, go to the County Courthouse Auditor's Office, Suite 3 during business hours.

Voters in Columbia County and Garfield County will vote for State and District positions. The following is a list of open Washington State positions: Governor, Lt. Governor, U.S. Senator, No 5; U. S Representatives, No 5; Secretary of State; State Treasurer; State Auditor; Attorney General, Commissioner of Public Lands; Superintendent of Public Instruction; and Insurance Commissioner. District positions open are: Legislative District 9 State Senator; Legislative District No. 9 Representatives; and Supreme Court Justice Position No. 2.

Secretary of State candidates, four-year term, are: Marquez Tiggs, Democrat; Dale Whitaker, Republican; Damon Townsend, No Labels; and Steve Hobbs, Democrat.

State Treasurer candidates, four-year term, are: Mike Pellicciotti, Democrat; and Sharon Hanek, Republican.

State Auditor candidates, four-year term, are: Matt Hawkins, Republican; and Pat (Patrice) McCarthy, Democrat.

Attorney General candidates, four-year term, are: Pete Serrano, Republican; Nick Brown, Democrat; and Manka Dhingra, Democrat.

Commissioner of Public Lands candidates, four-year term, are: Allen Lebovitz, Democrat; Jaime Herrera Beutler, Republican; Dave Upthegrove, Democrat; Sue Kuehl Pederson, Republic; Patrick DePoe, Democrat; Jeralee Anderson, Democrat; and Kevin Van De Wege, Democrat.

Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates, four-year term, are: Reid Saaris, Chris Reykdal, John Patterson Blair, and David Olson.

Insurance Commissioner candidates, four-year term, are: Patty Kuderer, Democrat; Chris D. Chung, Democrat; Jonathan Hendrix, No Party; Bill Boyd, Democrat; John Pestinger, Democrat; Tim Verzal, No Party; Phil Fortunato, Republican; and Justin Murta, Republican.

Legislative District No 9 State Senator candidate, four-year term, is incumbent Mark G. Schoesler, GOP. Legislative District No. 9 State Representative Pos. 1 two-year term, candidates are incumbent Mary Dye, GOP; and Patrick Miller, Democrat.

Legislative District No. 9 State Representative Pos. 2 candidates are: Pam Kohlmeier, Democrat; incumbent Joe Schmick, Republican; and Arianna Arends, Democrat.

Supreme Court Justice Pos. No. 2 candidates, six-year term, are: Todd A. Bloom, Sal Mungia, David R. Shelvey, and Dave Larson.

In Garfield County, two County Commissioner positions are open: Garfield County Commissioner District No. 1, four-year term is incumbent Jim Nelson, Republican and Garfield County Commissioner District No. 2, four-year term is incumbent Larry Ledgerwood, No Party.

In Columbia County, two Columbia County Commissioner positions open. candidates are: Columbia County Commissioner District No. 2, four-year term is incumbent Marty Hall; and Columbia County Commissioner, District No. 1, four-year term, incumbent Ryan Rundell.
