Devotion
Captain, an Alsatian dog, similar to a large Husky, slept loyally by his master's grave for 14 years before passing away. He disappeared after his master died but was found several months later when the family visited the cemetery. Captain had never been to the cemetery before. Cemetery neighbors fed him daily once they realized he slept at the grave of his master. The cemetery director said that when Captain showed up, all on his own, he wandered around until he eventually found his master's grave. He reported that Captain would often take a walk around the cemetery but every night at 6 p.m., he would lie down on the grave and stay there all night, for 14 years.
Captain's loyalty was based on a decision that brought about his devotion even to the point of death. Perhaps he could have had other masters but he chose to be faithful to the one he loved. Our commitment to Jesus is based on the same three truths! 1. Decision. We have made the decision to trust, love, and serve the one we love, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. "We love Him because He first loved us" 1 Jn. 4:19. It is a decision in which we commit our whole life to Him. 2. Devotion. We didn't make a decision that was temporary or fleeting. Our devotion is from sunrise to sunset and sunset to sunrise. He is our Lord wherever we are and whatever may befall. We are devoted to Him and His living word with our mind, heart, body, and soul. 3. To the death. God's people do not "love their lives unto death." We love His life unto our deaths and we have the opportunity to love Him even beyond.
