oard held a special meeting on August 1 to approve the selection of a new history textbook for the 6th grade class.
There were three textbook options to choose from, but according to Superintendent Jeremy Wheatley, what made this one stand out from the rest was the readability and age appropriateness. The board chose "US History American Stories Beginnings to 1877" published by National Geographic.
The book has been made available to the school and public over the past few weeks, for those who wish to preview the book's content and other information.
"What really triggered the update was that we have a set of textbooks that are no longer suitable to take home. They have reached their lifespan," said Wheatley.
The new textbooks will stay in use until either a new edition is produced or until they are also no longer in good enough condition to use.
Board member Ryan Paulson made the motion to approve the text books. "I perused through it and it looks ok to me," said Paulson. "I just wanted to make sure that it was fairly neutral and literally just taught history."
The board approved the recommendation unanimously. The book will be in the 8th grade classroom for the 2024-25 school year.
