Budget revision made

DAYTON–The School Board met on August 21 for the final meeting before the start of the 2024-25 school year on Tuesday, August 27. They approved Resolution 2023-12 which will extend $390,000.

At the recommendation of Business Manager Jana Eaton, the Board approved Resolution 2023-12 for a General Fund Budget Extension of $390,000 for the 2023-24 budget year. August is the final month in the budget year. Eaton cited three reasons for the extension. The first was because of grants received during the school year. Second, the district had more students than anticipated which increased their apportionment allocation by $319,000. And last, there was an increase in revenue of over $471,000 at the time of the meeting. She projected the ending balance for the year is $488,665 which is above the required amount of $450,000 though final numbers will continue to come in next month.

In other business, Wheatley provided an organization chart for the board which provides a lead contact for each district department and the chain of communication. He said he is working to determine specific duties for the administration team leads who are Principal Amy Cox, Dean of Students Hannalee Farrell and Athletic Director Sam Korslund. All department leads will be supervised by Wheatley. He stated the HVAC project will be closed once they have the final meeting with McKinstry within the next two weeks. The boiler project has started, and the maintenance team has been busy making ready for the start of the school year.

Three Board members were present Chairman Jeff McCowen and Grant Griffen in person, and Ryan Paulson on Zoom. Zac Fabian and Aneesha Deui were excused. The consent agenda was approved, and Superintendent Jeremy Wheatley provided a report, as well as Business Manager Jana Eaton.
