Dawgs shut out Eagles

DAYTON–The Bulldogs mowed down the fledgling Yakama Tribal Nation Eagles football program in the 2024 season opener 94-0 here last Saturday.

"After about the first five minutes," said Head Coach Lucas Coller, "my coaches and I tried to slow down the game as much as possible. Slowing down the game but still having the boys play ball was hard on us. I didn't want to take away from everything we have been preaching, but still wanted to maintain some sort of sportsmanship."

Collier acknowledged that his staff and players wanted Yakama to enjoy a game and learn in spite of the late start they got this year. "We know what it is like to be in the other side of that score," Collier said. "New coach, and playing on a Saturday Night was hard for all."

Byron Collier had a good night, rushing for 101 yards on six carries for five touchdowns, plus recovering two fumbles.

Bulldogs Jordan McCowen and Raymon Yutzy each scored a pair of TDs. McCowen passed for 50 yards and Yutzy had an 80-yard ramble for six. Yutzy also counted two pick sixes on defense and a fumble recovery.

Denver Hutchens received for 43 years and scored one touchdown, and Duane Moore scored a touchdown.

Bulldog's defense gave up only two first downs to Yakama, one on a penalty.

"The Bulldogs' energy was up the whole game," Collier commented, "and all 10 of the Dayton Bulldogs got playing time on both sides of the ball. The players were exceptional sportsmen throughout out the entire game."
