DAYTON–Following the jamboree here September 5, the Lady Bulldogs came out strong against the Colton Lady Wildcats, sending them home with a five-set loss Tuesday, Sept. 10. A match in Rosalia didn't turn out so well two nights later, the Tekoa-Rosalia Lady Timberwolves dominating after the Lady Dawgs evened the set score 1-1, T-R taking the match 3-1.
Dayton traveled to Garfield-Palouse last Tuesday and tonight, September 19, welcomes Pomeroy to the Dayton court for a league contest at 6 p.m.
"The girls came out strong with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, beating Colton in five sets," said Head Coach Des Jones. "Our serving kept us in the game and allowed us to force a fifth set." Set scores were 22-25, 25-20, 12-25, 25-20, 15-6.
The Lady Bulldogs served 88 of 99 for 89% with 18 aces.
Layla Booth led the team with serving aces and eight assists. Peyton Benavides had 38 attacks, eight kills, and five assists. Marissa Tupling was 18 of 20 (90%) from the service line, and Alexa Jones had 28 attacks with five kills.
Against Tekoa-Rosalia, the long road trip seemed to affect the squad, Jones said. "This was our first game on the road and the girls had a hard time finding their fighting spirit," she noted. Set scores in the four-set loss were 23-25, 25-22, 11-25, 17-25.
"We had moments of greatness, but we just couldn't keep the momentum going long enough to hold onto more than a one-set win," Jones said. "We had a lot of unforced errors on the night, and we just didn't serve as well as we can. We are a young team, and I expect they will learn and improve from this match."
