Letters to the Editor

To the editor,

What has happened to Dayton's neighborhood streets? Once they were black top asphalt and now a gravelly mess. If you were to ask around Dayton, many theories would evolve. For example, "the road crews are coming back to lay asphalt over the gravel." Another response is "it's called chip seal but the construction company failed the application." I have been told the rock was too large and the crews never came back to seal the gravel.

So I ask, "what is the truth?" Could the city engineer please respond?

What we have now in our neighborhoods is a gravelly mess and it is dangerous. Large rock is presenting a hazard on sidewalks where we walk. Kids going to school on skateboards and bicycles have to deal with loose rock. Let's have a conversation on how to fix this expensive disaster. Was good money spent on ruining our streets?

I use to drive home on a street and now I drive home on a gravel road. Gravel roads are fine out in the countryside but I prefer an actual street in the city of Dayton.
