DAYTON–The Lady Bulldogs have been on an uphill march, looking for a win after a season-opening win against Colton, followed by six straight losses. The Prescott Lady Tigers capitalized on Dayton's unforced errors to win in three sets Saturday, and Oakesdale counted a conference win in three sets there Sept. 26. The Lady Eagles of SJEL visited Sept. 24, winning in four sets.
Dayton (1-6) played Waitsburg earlier this week, travels to Colton Oct. 3 and hosts Touchet Saturday at noon.
In addition to unforced errors at Prescott, the Lady Bulldogs struggled with serve receives in the 14-25, 17-25, 17-25 match. "They could not make the adjustments needed to be able to receive their serves," observed Head Coach Des Jones. "We would have several good plays, and then more unforced errors.
"I would like to blame team circumstances for the day, but we just didn't show up to play," she said. "I am hopeful that they can bounce back today and show up to play to the best of their ability."
At Oakesdale, the Lady Dawgs lost 9-25, 9-25, 10-25, then two more sets were played to give younger players some court time with set scores of 24-26, 25-17.
Marissa Tupling had 12 digs, Alexa Jones five blocks, Layla Booth had five assists and six kills, and Peyton Benavides had 12 serves with four aces.
The Lady Bulldogs fought hard against SJEL, but lost 12-25, 26-24, 22-25, 21-25.
"The girls battled at home but came up short against the Eagles," Jones said. "After a rough first set they made some adjustments and fought hard for every point."
Layla Booth was 13/15 (87%) from the line with three aces. Marissa Tupling showed quickness and had some amazing digs, Peyton Benavides led the team in kills, and Alexa Jones blocked well against some tough hitters.
For the Eagles, Sophie Anderson led the team with aces and assists, Kate Hergert had 8 kills and Catalina Torres and 14 digs.
