For decades, the World War I Service Banner waited, rolled around a wooden rod and stashed in the furthest corner of the First Congregational Church's attic. In 2002, a group of church members and Roslyn Edwards discovered the banner. Dallas Dickinson solicited support to frame the banner using archival methods so the banner will be protected and preserved.

Volunteer with EXPRO, Mona Himmelberger, received the State Teacher of the Year Award. She has volunteered countless hours in the past three years for the EXPRO program which serves talented and gifted children at the Dayton Elementary School. She single-handedly designed and implemented the curriculum, and helped devise the system by which gifted students would be tapped.
Vickie Hodgson, representing Citizens for Community Projects (CCP) Park Committee, made an impressive presentation of their completed comprehension plan for the city park. The plan includes a large elaborate "climbing " toy, compacted soft fall underlayment, approximately five wheelchair accessible picnic tables and a fitness trail designed for those of all ages. The total cost will be approximately $41,000, CCP has $25,000 which includes a $20,000 donation made in memory of David Payne, a former mayor and local businessman.

Dwayne Goff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Goff, has enlisted in the Air Force for a period of four years. Dwayne will be station at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex., for basic training and as a Jet Mechanic Specialist.
Marine Second Lt. Michael G. Wild, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norris Wild, has completed environmental indoctrination school at Pensacola, Fla., which is part of 18 months' training for his designation as a Marine aviator.
Kay Louise Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Johnson, Star Route, Prescott, has been crowned as Columbia County Wheat Queen of 1975 by Doug Lambert, president, Columbia County Wheat Growers Association. Queen Kay Louise was presented with a trophy and a $50 check on behalf of CCWGA.
Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Pandian, new citizens, cast their first ballot in the general election.

Bob (Tiger) Johnson, owner of the Dayton Drug, who is moving to Richland, has announced that Mike Floyd has taken over as manager of his drug store in Dayton. Johnson is planning to start a food-drug combination store in Richland in connection with Bob Kaiser, former owner of Kaiser's Market in Dayton.
Harold F. McCauley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron McCauley, who is working on the Grand Coulee dam, was congratulated by Department of Interior authorities for developing a dispenser used to introduce more air-entraining agents into concrete mixtures.
Richard Conte and Susan Hayward in a scene from "House of Strangers" the gripping melodrama playing Thursday at the Liberty Theater. Edward G. Robinson rounds out the trio of stars in this top production.
JITTERBUGS OF 1913-University of Washington Touring Theatre actors Joan Burkard and Wayne Carson do the Turkey Trot, dance hot of decades past, in a scene from Ruth Gordon's popular American comedy, "Years Ago" may be seen in the high school auditorium.

The Portland Mill Co. has recently put in a 75-light dynamo for lighting the mill. The dynamo for lighting was put in position and connected up by John E. Frick and is just another sample of Mr. Frick's excellent mechanical skill. Mr. Woodworth, manager of the mill, will have wires run to his residence from the mill, the dynamo being of sufficient capacity to furnish light for both places.
