Randall Leo Schafer

March 1, 1965–November 17, 2024

Randall ("Randy") Leo Schafer, 59 of Dayton, Wash. passed away at his home on November 17, 2024.

Randy was born on March 1, 1965 to Ronald and Janet (McGuire) Schafer in Dayton, Wash. He grew up on a farm outside of Dayton graduating from Dayton High School in 1983. He pursued a degree in Agronomy from Washington State University and graduated in 1987.

Randy was an active member of 4H and FFA and earned the distinguished award of American Farmer. His agronomy career began in Tensed, Idaho where he worked for the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Farm alongside close family friend, Jack Miller. He worked for American Harvest in Lind, Wash. until relocating to Grangeville, Idaho under the employ of CHS Primeland. After a stint at Harvest Ag in Touchet, Wash., Randy launched Schafer Ag, LLC located in Touchet, Wash. and continued in the business until his untimely death.

He was an accomplished cook and had a penchant for good food, fine wine, and spirits. In addition, he was a devout patriot and engaged in politics at the county level as a Precinct Committee Officer and supported the state Republican Committee. Past-times included snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and travel. Randy was a life-time member of the NRA and a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Those who knew him appreciated his wickedly keen sense of perspective, intellect, and genuine compassion for family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Schafer, cousin, Bob Hays, maternal grandparents, Jim and Dorothy McGuire and paternal grandparents, Leo and Lillian Schafer.

Randy is survived by his wife Janet Schafer at their Dayton, Wash. home, his son, Max (Joslyn) Schafer of Spangle, Wash., granddaughter, Charlotte Schafer, parents, Ronald and Janet Schafer of Dayton, as well as a multitude of loyal friends and colleagues.

A celebration of life will be held at the Dayton Eagles in Dayton, Wash. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 1 p.m. Casual dress is preferred by the family.
