DAYTON–There's something for everyone at Dayton's Christmas Kick Off, the community-wide ushering in of the Christmas holidays, and, though it may be a bit chilly, looks like conditions are favorable for an enjoyable celebration.
The National Weather Service is predicting a partly sunny Thanksgiving with high temperatures in the low forties with weather moving in Friday, with a 20 percent chance of snow with partly sunny conditions for Dayton's Christmas Kickoff and temperatures around forty degrees.
No precipitation is anticipated by weather forecasters for the Kick Off Saturday, with mostly cloudy skies and about 40° F.
Friday, November 29 is full of things to do and is geared for all ages. There's that right jolly old elf, Santy Claus and the Festival of Trees, 245 E. Main Street, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and until 2 p.m. Saturday, if you didn't have your Wish List ready beforehand.
Lace up your runners for the Ugly Christmas Sweater 5k Dash, starting gun at 11 a.m. at the Columbia County Courthouse.
For animal aficionados, there'll be reindeer and mule-drawn wagon rides, both free attractions. The reindeer are only on site Saturday.
Check out the Christmas Market at the Historic Dayton Depot both days.
Friday's attractions include a Live Nativity behind Dingles at 4 and 5 p.m.
The Lighted Christmas Parade rolls down Main Street at 6 p.m., followed by the Tree Lighting at Elk Drug, and fireworks to follow.
Watch for strolling carolers, The Candy Canes, sponsored by Clef Hangers Music Studio/Charlotte Baker. The group will be offering Christmas carols at various locations up and down Main Street.
"The Grinch" is offered free at the Liberty Theater on Friday, and Saturday, two live performances of "The Fiddler on the Roof" will be staged at the Liberty.
