The interior of the home of Dee Lathim, located at 115 W. Washington Avenue was heavily damaged in by fire. Mrs. Lathim was able to exit the residence safely.
The Commissioners of the Columbia County Hospital District directed hospital administrators to pursue direct private placement to fund the $5.5 million Dayton general Hospital and Booker Rest Home modernization project.

The building in which Criss furniture and Appliance conducted business was built in 1945 after the burned out remains of the Weinhard Theater removed. Criss closed in January of 1997. Prior to Criss, "One of the finest theaters west of the Mississippi, the Weinhard theater was built buy Jacob Weinhard in 1903. It had "unbelievably life-like" scenery painted by German artists in Chicago, according to the former theater manager, Fred "Oley" Norris, now deceased.

Funds totaling $9,450.64 to furnish the recently completed "Henry Delany Memorial Building," attached to the City Library, were ordered released by the Superior Court here following a hearing. The building is now complete and ready for use by the community as a community building and that the trustees, Ray Gaines and C. W. McNair, of the Columbia County Community Building Fund should to expend the balance of the fund to furnish and equip the building.
An overwhelming vote of approval came during a meeting of the county commissioners, state representatives and weed control specialists at the courthouse for the formation of a weed control district in the county to combat the ravages of the Yellow Star thistle.

Lt. Harold E. Floyd, who is stationed in Norfolk, Va., with the navy, will arrive in Dayton around December 6, according to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Floyd.
Workmen for the Union Pacific railroad were to complete a new entrance walk around the Dayton Depot this week. The old board walks along the east and north sides of the depot have been torn up and are being replaced with asphalt walks.
Gerald Magill, senior tackle, was given the 1949 inspirational award during the annual Kiwanis football banquet, in the Fraternity Hall. "The inspirational award winner is picked each year by a vote of the football squad, the coaching staff and the high school principal."

C. P. Prater and Henry Hoy of Covello, have made a deal wherein they have purchased the lease of James Tharp 680 acres of fine farming land one mile east of Covello. The land in question being all summer fallowed.
A pretty wedding occurred at the residence of Sam'l Gohlson, the contracting parties being John Lawrence Dittemore and Miss Daisy Gohlson, in the presence of family a few invited guests.
Mr. Dittemore is well known in Dayton, having lived here since his boyhood. He recently returned from the Philippines with Company F of which he was a member. The bride is one of Dayton's most charming daughters.
