Boys run into scrappy Redhawk team

TOUCHET–The Redhawks rode big second and third quarters to a 45-37 win here December 10.

The loss is the second for the Bulldogs, now 2-0 in league play, 3-2 overall as they faced a road trip to Mac-Hi last Tuesday and go to Oakesdale this Friday then host Colton Saturday. Last Friday's home game against the Pomeroy Pirates was rescheduled due to the school closure because of illness. Pomeroy comes to Dayton on December 27 to make up the game.

"We played hard at Touchet," observed Head Coach Clayton Strong, "but didn't do the little things very well that we had done well the past weekend.

"We fought back which was good, but in a game that is decided by a couple of possessions, we have to do the little things better," Strong added. "We will be better because of this game and it gives us a chance to go back and work on somethings to get better."

Bulldogs Jordan McCowen and Sam Potthoff shared team-high scoring honors with 13, and Potthoff counted three blocked shots with McCowen accounting for a pair.

Jack Zanger led the team with 12 rebounds and Colton Steinhoff wiped five off the boards. Silas Czapka made four steals and three assists.

The absence of starter Denver Hutchens was noticeable.

Dayton's 11-9 first-quarter lead was reversed when the Redhawks outscored the Dawgs 13-6 in the second stanza for a 22-17 lead. Touchet's big 19-point third quarter spelled the difference as the Bulldogs weren't able to make any runs at the lead stick.
