Lady Bulldogs hammer Lady Redhawks

TOUCHET–The Lady Bulldogs came away with a resounding 63-21 win over the Touchet Redhawks thanks to pressure, and lots of it. Dayton is now 5-0 overall, 2-0 in league play.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Mac-Hi earlier this week, and look to a Friday road trip to Oakesdale, with a Saturday home stand against Colton. Last weekend's contest with Pomeroy was not played due to Dayton Schools being closed due to illness. The home game was rescheduled for December 27.

"Dayton put the pressure on right away," said Head Coach Jorie Aukerman. "And we came out strong in the third quarter. The fourth quarter did not disappoint as we continued to press and push the ball. The shots were going in."

Peyton Benavides paced the Lady Bulldogs with 22 point and Marissa Tupling scored 14.

The team connected on only 33 percent of their shots, but they put up a total of 72 shots in the game. In the three-point department, Bulldog shooters hit seven of fifteen.

The Lady Bulldog Jayvees slashed the DeSales Lady Irish B squad 44-14, with Ellie Jonas leading scoring with 14 and Kyla Thurston pitching in 12.

Dayton blew ahead 14-2 after eight minutes and led 27-4 at half.

Poché said the post player had to work to be free to receive a pass, and succeeded, allowing the Baby Dawgs to build a good lead.

The Jayvees thumped Tekoa-Rosalia 44-26 on December 7. After fighting for a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Dayton went on a scoring rampage through the next three stanzas.

Ellie Jonas poured in 13 points and Alexa Jones scored 11.

Coach Morgan Poché praised the defense for preventing Tekoa-Rosalia from scoring, but noted the Lady Bulldog JVs had to work to set up its offense, opting to drive the key. Rebounders did well cleaning the glass and getting put-backs, Poché said.
