Lady Bulldogs endure trio of losses

DAYTON–After breaking into the 2024-25 season with five straight wins, the Lady Bulldogs sustained a trio of losses to Mac-Hi, Oakesdale and Colton, evening their SE 1B record at 2-2 before breaking for the Christmas holiday.

The team hits the floor Friday against Pomeroy at home, and hosts Sunnyside Christian Monday, December 30 in the final games of the year before delving into the second half of the season in 2025.

Teagan Culley scored eight in Dayton's 59-32 loss to Colton, the Lady Dawgs unable to cap four of the Lady Wildcats scoring in double figures.

"We both started drong with the defensive effort," commented Head Coach Jorie Aukerman. "Colton started hitting their shots in the second quarter, pulling ahead.

"We had a better defensive and offensive effort in the second half, but could not come back," she added.

At Oakesdale last Friday, Aukerman thought both teams got off to a good start, with the Lady Bulldogs handling their press. Then, in the second stanza, the intensity went up and Dayton lost its momentum, she said.

"It was a tough loss and lots of areas to work on," Aukerman said. "We need to focus on pushing through and finishing strong."

Mac-Hi rallied with 19 fourth-quarter points for the four-point win, 42-38.

Dayton held a 21-16 lead at the break, then the Lady Pioneers cut the margin to one to start the fourth quarter.

Marissa Tupling hit a three to knot the score with :30 to go, but Mac-Hi edged ahead on two made free throws. Teagan Culley drove the key for a lay up, was fouled, but missed both gifters.

"It's tough getting our first loss but it was a great learning lesson and opportunity for us to play a game so close," Aukerman said. "This game proved to us all how much better and how much we have overcome challenges."
