PRESCOTT–After a four-game losing streak leading up to and after Christmas, the Lady Bulldogs have chewed into the second half of the 2024-25 basketball season with four straight wins, counting lopsided margins over Prescott, St. John/Endicott-LaCrosse and Waitsburg.
The 9-5 Lady Bulldogs are at home for both Friday and Saturday games, first versus Tekoa-Rosalia and against Garfield-Palouse on Saturday. Dayton is 4-2 in SE 1B action.
The Lady Dawgs blanked the Prescott Lady Tigers 10-0 and cruised to the 58-15 win there Tuesday night. Peyton Benavides paced Bulldog scoring with 25 and Cindi Howard poured in 11 points.
Last weekend at St. John, it was again a story of dominance as Dayton pounded the Lady Eagles with a 22-2 first quarter and never looked back. The score-fest was led by Benavides with 15, and both Lila Hutchens and Alexa Jones scored 10.
The Waitsburg Lady Cardinals were also no match for the Lady Dawgs in the 57-20 contest at home.
Burning up the nets were Benavides with 20 and Teagan Culley with 12 points. The Lady Bulldogs swished 11 three pointers in the runaway.
"The Bulldogs put on the defensive pressure from the beginning to gain a large lead to end the first half," said Head Coach Jorie Aukerman. "Dayton was making their shots but failing to finish in the paint."
The post-Christmas contest against Riverside Christian was a low scoring game but a decisive win for Dayton, 33-18. Scoring was evenly distributed across the roster with Jones leading with seven.
